Fund Razing.

Last night we, in the royal sense, attended a fundraiser for a school that is to be (adult content warning) erected in an Andean village in Peru. The event was held by the patio at an adorably generic cafe just off of the freeway, and played host to a kaleidoscope (or Kalashnikov, depending on your views of social interaction) of charitable people. The fundraiser was created by a Mr. Oakley G. as part of his lifelong quest to give back to the Pachamama, and the people who added the word "Pachamama" to his vernacular. As all truly decent fundraisers for poor people sell souvenirs, I was able to buy three strings of beaded, woven fabric, and, much like all truly decent souvenirs, now currently have no idea what to do with them. I'm thinking about incorporating the strings into the fringe on my exotic dancer costume, although I might just wear one as a bracelet and give the other two to friends. My favorite parts of the evening were the Despacho ceremony, where we were able to give thanks to the Pachamama, and the live music provided by an incredibly Peruvian man named Jaime. This man played a guitar while simultaneously blowing on a set of Peter Piper-esque flutes, keeping a razzing, maraca-type noise steady with one foot, and pumping out a low, bassy drum rhythm with the other. Put simply, it blew my mind. After hearing his talent, I regretted that I didn't purchase his CD instead of the fringed additions to my exotic dancer costume. Regardless, it was a perfectly lovely evening and a beautiful night to be outside. I plan to explore the cafe further in the future and report back on the size of the menu, amount of crust on the bread, etc. In the mean time, I've had some pictures printed from my previous explorations. The donkey sitting on top of this writing is one of my favorites...
